Craig Pennington and Lawrence Tal have known one another for over 25 years having met while studying at the University of Oxford. Both went on to have successful careers investing in Natural Resources. Lawrence is an industry veteran with an extensive M&A track record (senior M&A dealmaker for Royal Dutch Shell and Managing Director of M&A at Rio Tinto) and Craig is a top-rated energy analyst and portfolio manager with a long-term track record of material outperformance (including senior roles at Schroders and T. Rowe Price in London and UBS in Hong Kong). In the second half of 2016 they formulated a compelling investment proposition that led to the formation of Oxford Energy Partners (OEP).
In August 2017 Brian Twaddle joined OEP as Managing Partner, Technical & Operations Director. With over 30 years of industry experience Brian will lead OEP’s team of sub-surface technical experts, oversee producing fields and drive our process of value maximisation from development opportunities. He joins OEP from Transglobe Energy Corporation where he was Country Manager, with responsibility for the upstream business in Egypt. Prior to this Brian worked for Dana Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell. He has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow.
OEP is very pleased to have Ron Aston as Non-Executive Chairman. Ron has over 35 years of oil & gas experience in financial and senior management roles for multinational companies, including Conoco, Total, Premier Oil and Talisman Energy. Recently Ron was Deputy Chairman of Tamarind Energy in Asia (Blackstone funded). He has a successful track record across a wide range of managerial, financial and commercial roles and brings significant board level experience to OEP. Having spent the last 16 years in SE Asia, Ron has a wealth of regional knowledge and insight across industry, governments and regulators.
All OEP asset acquisitions will be vetted by the Investment Committee. We are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Stuart Paton on the committee. Stuart has over 20 years oil & gas industry experience, having had a distinguished career at Dana Petroleum, laterly as Technical & Commercial Director and CEO. Before joining Dana Stuart was a geologist for Shell, specialising in HPHT discoveries in the UK Central North Sea. He also brings private equity (PE) experience having advised Lime Rock Partners, an energy focussed PE Fund for five years. In addition to his role on OEP's Investment Committee, Stuart is Non-Executive Chairman of Getech plc.
The wider OEP Team includes five geological, geophysical and reservoir engineering professionals located in SE Asia and the UK. With over 30 years average industry experience this group includes extensive multi-basin and play type sub-surface knowledge, experience commercialising reserves, extending field life and seeking new business ventures. A key advantage of having technical staff in the region is that they often have intimate knowledge of the assets targeted by OEP, either having worked on them directly in a former corporate role, or having worked on analogous fields and basins in a particular country.
